It's funny how unevenly the real world keeps pace with science fiction. Smartphones have capabilities that Gene Roddenberry never imagine a portable device could have, but guns still use tiny powder cartridges to launch hunks of metal at things. This video will show you how to make a cool retro ray gun prop that you can use with a Halloween costume or in a film. You'll need to buy some parts, but it's worth it as the end result looks much cooler than some of the simpler examples we've seen.
