How to Make a Gaara Gourd from Naruto

Are you into Gaara? If so, why not make one of his gourds?

Materials you will need:

Big balloons

PVA

Scissors

Needle & yarn, or string & a pencil

Bucket

Newspaper (lots)

Red ribbon or cotton fabric

Yellow & brown paint

Black paint

Kitchen roll

Sponge

Metal eyelets (possibly)

This is what you will use to make your Gaara Gourd. Blow up your balloons. Make one balloon larger than the other. Start paper macheing over the balloons. After you are sure the balloons will be strong and durable, lay aside for them to dry. This could take up to a day. When you are sure the paper mache is dry, pop the balloons. To make the edge clean, cut around it with scissors. Where you have cleaned the edges, put the two balloons together. With a pencil you are going to poke three holes, one at top an two on the larger bottom part. Put metal eyelets in the holes to make them strong. On the smaller part of the balloon tie a lone piece of red ribbon. This is going to be the gourds shoulder strap. Going in and out of the two holes put the remaining part of the strap. This way you will be able to tighten the strap. To get ready for the next stage, take a pencil and string or a strong needle and yarn and sew the two parts together. Make sure you don't tie too tight as this is only to get ready for the next stage. Cut a kitchen sponge into strips and soak them thoroughly in the water and PVA mixture. All around the edges stick the drenched sponge. Put aside to dry. After the sponge has dried, make a ring for Gaara's sand plug. Make the ring around the top of the gourd. Now you are going to paper mache again covering the plug and where the sponge joined the two pieces. Now, using kitchen roll you are going to paper mache over the newspaper paper mache. After this has dried, paint yellow brown and it will look like sand when dried. Paint on the cracks and add ribbon around the middle. Use black paint to cover extra sponge the hole at the top for Gaara's plug.
